A Tribute to Wes Adell

F. Wes Adell, Jr. provided the vision and leadership for what was to become SOWER Project. It was created in collaboration with his home church, First Baptist Church of Lindsborg, Kansas, to continue the work he began. SOWER Project was yet in its formative stages when Wes became ill.

F. Wes Adell, Jr.

In August 2004 Wes was diagnosed with cancer and his body quickly deteriorated. He continued to have a positive attitude and spent much time worshipping his Lord and Savior. Wes died on October 30, 2004.

Several years ago Wes was given the title “King of Compost’ by CNN. Some of Wes’ accomplishments have been documented by CNN with two programs produced and aired that include segments featuring Wes. (“Living the Vision” and “Down to Earth.”)

The CNN coverage increased world awareness of Wes’ work. He traveled to many countries presenting educational talks and demonstrations. Wes served as a consultant for composting projects, both production and utilization, as well as helping use water effectively. His audiences varied from village farmers, to regional governments, to the UN World Summit on Sustainable Development.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment inducted Wes into The Kansas Solid Waste Management Hall of Fame in 2004. The award honored Wes for demonstrating exemplary performance over a period of years yielding clear improvements in the management of solid waste in Kansas.

Wes lived out his passion for serving others. He enjoyed seeing the progress made by developing countries in their quest for better living conditions and self-support.

We at SOWER Project desire to continue serving the people of the world through promotion of practical sustainable agricultural production and waste management. The vision of Wes Adell continues to shine through the efforts of SOWER Project.
